Lets revise some important definitions :
- Sexual Reproduction : process of fusion of male and female gamete
- Sperm : male gamete
- Ova : female gamete
- Fertilisation : process of fusion of sperm and ova
- Internal fertilisation : fertilisation which takes place inside the female body.
Examples : cows, humans , dogs
- External fertilisation : fertilisation which takes place outside the female body.
Examples : fish , starfish
- IVF: in-vitro fertilisation : development of zygote for a week outside the body and then inserting it inside the mothers body .
Babies forming through this technique are known as test-tube babies.
- Foetus : the stage of embryo in which all the body parts can be identified .
- Viviparous animals : the animals which give birth to young ones .
Examples : dog,cat
- Oviparous animals : the animals which lay eggs .
Examples : frog, lizard.
- Metamorphosis : the transformation of the larva into an adult through drastic changes .
Examples : frog, moth.
- Asexual reproduction : the type of reproduction in which a single parent gives rise to young ones .
